April Update

Once again the weeks have whizzed by and the first Major of the year has been and gone. Huge congratulations to Bubba Watson who picked up his second green jacket in the space of three years.  What a performance!  What I found incredibly interesting were his interviews at Augusta throughout the week, he talked about how much he was pulled in so many different directions the year before as defending champion.  It meant in 2013 he couldn’t completely focus on his game. This year he drove down Magnolia Lane with the confidence he’d won there already but without the obligations Adam Scott would have.

I have to highlight Jordan Spieth’s performance.  A fantastic week for the 20 year old and the poise he showed in his Masters debut was remarkable.  One lesson learnt from the week, don’t get too greedy with Augusta.  His shot on 12 on the final day that ended up water bound is a clear indication of that. Spieth finished three shots back of course, finishing tied second.  One thing he did say after 72 holes, aside from stating the result would sting for a while, was how much fun he had.  I love to hear those words!  Golf is a fun game and of course it’s incredibly intense at a professional level, but still, we want to see those on TV smiling when they can and enjoying their big moments.

Take Miguel Angel Jimenez, a stalwart of the European Tour, now there’s a guy who loves life and golf!  What a player. He has just won the Greater Gwinnett Championship on his Champions Tour debut after finishing fourth in the Masters. The 50 year old is always smiling, he never seems to take anything too seriously and his laissez-faire attitude is so refreshing.  He is aiming to play in another Ryder Cup, I think we’d all love to see him on the fairways up at Gleneagles.

On another note, I had the chance to play a spot of golf in the Sky Sports Shot Centre with Damon Hill, Alan Smith and Simon Holmes. We played Amen Corner and had such a giggle. Take a look at the Daily Mail feature.

Some fantastic team news now.

Lynx have been confirmed as the Official Golf Club of the Ricoh Women’s British Open for the next three years.

This year we’ll all be heading up to Royal Birkdale. (Tournament dates 10th-13th July).  Stephanie Zinser, Lynx Golf UK managing partner, said ‘Becoming the leading brand in the ladies’ market is just one of the goals we have for Lynx in a long-term vision for our brand.  This is a huge leap forwards and demonstrates the level of commitment and investment we are prepared to put behind Lynx in the next few years.’  There will be hospitality, a putting clinic, trick shot demonstrations throughout the week, please come and see us!

Finally let’s turn our attention to football. We have spoken about nothing else apart from Man United for the last few days. Nick is a huge Man United fan (I’m Man City) and the sacking of David Moyes has meant constant Sky Sports News viewing! Ryan Giggs as interim manager, I think every football fan in the country will be watching how he gets on.

Speaking of football, a couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to take my Dad and Nick to Anfield, courtesy of Lynx! Thank you team Lynx. We had such a fantastic day, despite the result! My Dad and I are City fans but we had to admit the best team on the day won.  Steve (Lynx) was overjoyed and to see his reaction when Liverpool won was priceless. Have you stopped smiling yet Steve?!  We also had the chance to catch up with the Sky Sports Super Sunday boys. All in all, awesome fun.

Speak soon.
